Study Guide for Bridge Resource Management is designed to assist students in successfully completing an approved Bridge Resource Management (BRM) course of instruction.  This text encompasses a complete BRM course of study which meets and/or exceeds the requirements of the following regulatory bodies:  U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), International Convention for the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, the International Convention of Safety of Life At Sea (SOLAS), and the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS).

Study Guide for Bridge Resource Management may also be used as a template for maritime training facilities to use as a complete off-the-shelf BRM program that meets all regulatory requirements. This text breaks down the BRM course into eight graded exercises encompassing all BRM elements and objectives.  In addition, the text includes four individual lessons in preparation for the exercises, which include, COLREGS, Pilot interface, as well as full bridge mission simulator familiarization. Finally, the text includes three appendices consisting of helpful student hints, various sample SOLAS International Safety Management Code (ISM) Safety Management System (SMS) checklists, and a most relevant student NTSB case study regarding the Alaskan passenger vessel EMPRESS OF THE NORTH which is required for all U.S. maritime academies.
